Blueberry – Vaccinium caespitosum

General: Very low growing, matted shrub. Twigs are hairless or nearly so.

Leaves: Spoon-shaped, widest and toothed above the middle. Tapered and smooth towards the base.

Flowers: Clusters of whiteish-pink, very small, upside-down, urn-shaped flowers.

Fruit: Blue berries with a greyish film on the skin. Very tasty.

Reclamation Notes: Found in dry, open woods with coarse-textured (sandy) soils. Reproduces by underground stems (rhizomes) and by seed.
